Idris Elba

Idris Elba is an English actor, producer, singer, rapper and DJ.

Born in Hackney, London, Idris first became involved in acting at school and went on to win a place in the National Youth Music Theatre, thanks to a £1,500 Prince's Trust grant.

Idris got his major break starring as crime boss "Stringer" Bell in the highly acclaimed 2002 HBO drama, The Wire. After a string of television successes, he went on to win a 2012 Golden Globe Award for his role on the BBC crime thriller series Luther.

On the big screen Idris has landed film roles in multiple genres, starring in 28 Weeks Later (2007), Thor (2011), Prometheus (2012) and Pacific Rim (2013). He won critical acclaim for his role as President Nelson Mandela in the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013), earning him a Best Actor Golden Globe nomination in 2014.

Idris continues to DJ internationally and has also performed as a singer and rapper, going by the name Big Driis.
