ABOUT THE SHOW

Lighthearted detective series

Uncover the truth behind the island’s complex crimes

Express from the UK, the new series stars Kris Marshall (Love Actually, My Family) as DI Humphrey Goodman. The successful series follows the detective team on the idyllic Caribbean island of Saint Marie as they investigate the most intriguing and dastardly of murders. They must use their skills to uncover the truth behind the island’s complex crimes.

Guest stars for the fourth series include ex Coronation Street actress Natalie Gumede, Amy Nuttall (Downtown Abbey) and former EastEnders star Hettie Bywater.

Death in Paradise

The Cast and crew members sometimes need to film in temperatures of over 37 degrees Celsius

When filming the first season of Death in Paradise, Ben Miller wore backless shirts underneath his suit to manage the heat.

Kris Marshall says filming in the Caribbean is like putting on a wetsuit, then getting in a sauna and doing Hamlet.

The Amerindian inhabitants called Guadeloupe “Karukera” which means “Island of Beautiful Waters”.

Creator Robert Thorogood has also written a book entitled “A Meditation on Murder” which also stars DI Richard Poole.

The production designer couldn’t find the perfect beach-side bungalow for Richard’s Shack, so they found the perfect view of the beach and then built a house on it.

Kris Marshall has now sworn off Rum, after drinking the local rum, which is reportedly 50-70% proof.

Creator Robert Thorogood got the idea for Death in Paradise when he read that St. Lucia was voted the 4th most beautiful island in the world, but also had the highest per capita murder rate in the world.

The island of Guadeloupe where the show is filmed is most famous for their agriculture including sugar cane, bananas, eggplant, cocoa, jackfruit, pomegranate and gourd.
