Join motorcycle racer and British daredevil Guy Martin every Monday night as he attempts dangerous and death-defying new world records. Guy investigates the automotive world’s most disruptive new technology– autonomous vehicles - and goes head-to-head with an artificially intelligent prototype Roboracer. He heads to the Wall of Death to smash the world record for the fastest speed ever, aiming to be the first man to break 70mph. Then, the inside story about Guy’s most daring and dangerous speed challenge to date: his recent attempt to become the fastest man on two wheels and break the Motorcycle Land Speed Record.
Guy Martin Vs The Robot Car
Motorcycle racer and lorry mechanic Guy Martin investigates the most disruptive new technology to be introduced to the automotive world – autonomous vehicles – and becomes the first person to ever take on an artificially intelligent racecar to discover what’s fastest – man or machine?
In just over ten years, half of all new cars sold will be electric, and 15% will be autonomous. So what does the future of transport hold for petrolheads like Guy, a man who loves traditional engines so much he has a lawnmower piston tattooed on his leg? He thinks the best way of learning is by doing, and while Silicone Valley spends millions designing next generation vehicles, Guy attempts to make his own robotic Ford Transit, at home, in his shed.
Guy Martin: Wall of Death
In this extraordinary live TV event, motorcycle racer, lorry mechanic and very British daredevil, Guy Martin, will be taking on his most daring and extreme world record attempt yet on the largest Wall of Death ever made.
The Wall of Death is an epic stunt that involves defying gravity: riding a motorcycle around a vertical wall at high speed. In this live show presented by Steve Jones, and in front of an audience, Guy will attempt to go faster and further than ever before, setting a new world record by scaling incredible new heights on an enormous wall that has been specially constructed from shipping containers.
The programme will also follow Guy’s training, which began over a year ago with his first rather clumsy attempts to ride a wall under the guidance of Britain’s finest Wall of Death rider, Ken Fox. Guy also learns about the science which makes both him and his bike stick to a vertical wall, from Cambridge University professor, Dr Hugh Hunt, and endures a punishing flight in a stunt plane with ex-fighter pilot, Mark Greenfield, where Guy gets to experience the massive G forces he’ll need to contend with.
Guy’s take on the show? “It’s the greatest idea anyone has ever had.”
Guy Martin: Fastest Man on Two Wheels
This is the inside story about Guy Martin's fastest and most dangerous speed challenge to date: his recent attempt to become the fastest man on two wheels and break the Motorcycle Land Speed Record. The existing record is 376mph, and beating it will mean Guy has to master a special one off machine. The 1000 horsepower Triumph Rocket Streamliner, likened to a fighter jet without wings, uses two engines, has parachutes for brakes and is steered in a lying down position with two joysticks. The programme follows Guy through every step of the project, from his job interview in Portland, Oregon, to the so-called "fastest place on Earth" - the iconic Bonneville Salt Flats in Nevada, where this daredevil has to learn how to ride all over again using training wheel stabilisers. Working with an American team of hot-rodders and old racers, Guy will then start his high speed training - honing his balance and reactions as he racks up speeds in excess of 250mph. When conditions on the salt take a turn for the worse it leads to two high-profile crashes, but these do nothing to deter Guy from his ultimate desire to become the first man ever to do 400mph on a motorcycle
